Toki - My White Pawed Black Bear Syrian Hamster
Tokio, Toki for short, is the name of my adorable little hamster.
He has a long story and we have to cover it in a short time so let me talk a little bit about him. He came from a family that loved him very much. However, it was just too much work for that family. So, they said “Well, Beren loves animals so why don’t we give it to him.” I was happy to help! They introduced me to Toki and I decided to adopt him, so they brought the cage over to my house.
I was very excited to see him. In the cage there were a few things that I didn’t like, for example there was a pink see-through hiding place. Also, there was a neon green food bowl and a blue exercise wheel. I personally like my animals to have a natural cage. I like that the enclosure that the animal lives in is similar to its natural environment.
It was hard to create a natural environment for the hamster because he needed bedding not dirt, and also he ate the leaves I put in as decoration. Therefore, I decided to put in a wheel that is transparent, bedding that is brown and a log for a hiding place. I felt like a log was a better hiding place than a transparent dome since he could actually hide in it. I added some growing vegetables for him to nibble on whenever he wanted. I also added a stone food bowl and a stone vegetable bowl.
Sometimes, I bring Toki outside and I let him eat pesticide-free grass in my garden. I also make sure to change up his environment once in a while to give him good enrichment. I take him out every few days so he can explore a little bit and have a change of surroundings. I also make sure to give him a varied diet so he can stay healthy.
Toki is a great pet, and I’m glad to have rescued him. I hope Toki lives a long happy life with us, and he’s truly the best hamster ever.
